Chemists are constantly faced with the daunting task of counting large numbers of items, specifically atoms, ions, molecules and compounds. This task is made even more difficult by the fact that not all atoms of the same element are identical.

In this activity/demonstration, you will investigate an analogy to help understand the relationship between Avogadro’s number and the mole concept.

This activity can be structured as a teacher-led demonstration with student volunteers or a student-centered activity with very minor modifications.
