In this 6 day lesson plan, students explore the properties of rocks and minerals. On Day 1, students reflect on the impact of rocks and minerals on their own lives and investigate the properties of different rocks. On Day 2, students explore the rock cycle. On Day 3, students build a rock collection through a school yard exploration (or similar field trip). On Days 4-5 students consolidate their learning through the creation of a short story, that narrates how their world would change if there were a shortage of rocks. The lesson concludes with students presenting their stories to the class on Day 6.
