To increase student engagement, learning and critical thinking in the Tissues, Organs and Systems of Living Things unit in SNC2D, an inquiry-based approach was used to redesign the unit. Critical thinking is promoted by starting the unit with a problem/question. Inquiry-based lessons are incorporated throughout the unit to allow students to answer the problem. Students revisit the question at various points in the unit and revise their answers. The final assessment for this would either be on the test (application or thinking questions) or as a part of the summative project (analysis of technologies or health strategies used to diagnose or treat disease) for the unit.
