The Dandelion in Hakka culture is a symbol of strength, and perseverance. Dandelions are able to survive
in harsh conditions, adapt to new environments, and upon doing so, are able to grow abundantly. In
Ontario, there has been 30+ years of data showing a racial discrepancy in the educational success of
Ontario students – particularly BIPOC students. These systemic patterns embedded in Ontario education
accumulates, disadvantaging students in marginalized communities and reducing the accessibility of
opportunities for these individuals.
