The “Center of the Universe” in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, is an intriguing acoustic anomaly. Marked by a small concrete circle within a larger brick circle, it creates a unique echo effect. When you stand in the center and make a noise, the sound is echoed back much louder, creating a private amplified echo chamber. Interestingly, those outside the circle hear a distorted version of the sound.
The phenomenon is thought to be caused by sound reflecting off a nearby circular wall, but there’s no clear consensus on the exact cause. This spot is accessible via a brick path leading to a pedestrian bridge over railroad tracks, near the old Union Train Depot and the “Artificial Cloud” statue.
