Congratulations to Team 15 from Markville Secondary School in Markham for taking top spot at the 2023 Ontario Envirothon Provincial competition. The team will advance to the NCF-Envirothon Competition hosted in New Brunswick this July to represent Ontario against other state and provincial champions.

We would also like to recognize our second- and third-place teams from University of Toronto Schools and Elliot Lake Secondary School. And finally, thank you to the more than 250 volunteers, teachers and students who participated in the 2023 Ontario Envirothon program. We trust you will join us in wishing the best of luck to Markville Secondary School as they prepare for the NCF-Envirothon competition.

MicrosoftTeams-image (32).pngForests Ontario is proud to be the lead agency of the Ontario Envirothon – a unique environmentally-themed academic competition that immerses students in hands-on learning and discovery. Through this program, Forests Ontario offers budding environmental leaders a chance to explore education and career paths in the natural sciences and network with potential mentors.

The Ontario Envirothon provides students with hands-on experience with forests, soils, wildlife, and aquatic ecosystems, while team-based activities are designed to develop critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. The program challenges students to showcase their environmental knowledge for a chance advance to the provincial competition. Here teams of students put their hard-earned knowledge to the test for the chance to represent Ontario in the NCF-Envirothon.

Thanks to support from educators and our provincial network of coordinators and volunteers, the Ontario Envirothon has grown to reach over 120 schools and over 10,000 Envirothon alumni since the program’s establishment in 1994.
