This article outlines the deconstruction and reconstruction of a lesson, Building towards Bad Water. The selected lesson was revised to incorporate each of the 5 elements considered important to teaching and learning science – inquiry, constructivism, differentiated instruction, cross-disciplinary approaches, and equity principles – and discusses why these elements are important in teaching Science and Technology using the 5E learning cycle. The reconstructed lesson is included below (Appendix 1).
