The Costasiella kuroshimae, or “Leaf Sheep,” is an adorable sea slug resembling a cartoon sheep. Found in waters near Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines, it grows up to 5mm in length and has the unique ability to photosynthesize. When it feeds on algae, it extracts chloroplasts and incorporates them into its body through a process called kleptoplasty, making it one of the few sea creatures capable of harnessing solar energy like plants. This fascinating trait makes the Leaf Sheep a “solar-powered” slug, adding to its charm.
