Students from three Greater Toronto Area schools won a national competition, allowing them to remotely control a lunar rover prototype. The competition, organized by Let’s Talk Science, tasked students with using the rover to find ice on the moon. The rover, located in Stratford, Ontario, simulates lunar conditions.
Grade 9 student Manvi Lakhani from Bayview Secondary School expressed excitement about the experience. The students’ mission involved navigating the rover, tracking battery life, and identifying rocks to locate ice. Despite initial challenges, they successfully completed their mission.
The rover, developed by Canadensys Aerospace, may be part of the Artemis space missions by 2026. The project is funded by the Canadian Space Agency.
