Heather Wolpert-Gawron describes her journey of redesigning her classroom to create a more student-centered environment. Initially, the classroom had a few pieces of furniture like beanbags and video game chairs. As new furniture arrived, including tables on wheels, regular chairs, and standing bar tables, she handed over the design responsibility to her students. Using design software, the students created layouts that reflected their ideal learning spaces, considering factors like visibility of the whiteboard and comfort. The results were impressive, showcasing diverse and organized workspaces that catered to different learning styles. This experiment highlighted the importance of offering students choice in their learning environment, enhancing their engagement and comfort.
