You are invited with your high school students to the 2021 Zoological Education Trust’s public lecture in zoology, an online event hosted by the Canadian Society of Zoologists. Please feel free to circulate this invitation to colleagues and teachers in your school boards.
This year’s speaker is Dr. Andrea Reid, a citizen of the Nisga’a Nation and Assistant Professor with the University of British Columbia’s Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries where she leads the Centre for Indigenous Fisheries. Her talk is entitled “Learning from the land as a pathway to pluralism” and will explore ways of knowing through science and Indigenous Knowledge. The 40-minute talk will open with words from Elder Larry McDermott of the Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation and Executive Director of Plenty Canada, and it will end with 20 minutes of questions from the audience. Students are encouraged to participate. Please see attached poster for more information.
The live talk will take place via Zoom on Thursday May 20, 2021, from 12:00 to 1:00pm. A recorded version of the talk will be posted on the Canadian Society of Zoologists website shortly thereafter. You are welcome to tune into the live event or watch the recorded version at a later time.
To tune into the live event, please register here by Monday May 3 at 12:00pm. A link to the livestream will be emailed to all registrants on May 19, 2021.
Special note for teachers wishing to view the livestream with their students: To avoid each student needing to register, please register only yourselves and share your screen with your students during the livestream.
We hope to see you on May 20!
Sincerely,
Matt Regan (on behalf of the Canadian Society of Zoologists)
