STEAM programs at Markham Museum

Are you looking to book a fun and engaging program for your next field trip? The Markham Museum offers 2 STEAM programs; Little Makers for grades 1-2 and Maker Challenge for grades 3-6.

In only a few thousand years manufacturing has evolved from making tools by chiseling raw materials to designing and printing complex objects on a 3D printer. Museum programmers use artifacts to engage students and have them discussing the materials and methods needed to make the objects around us.

A classroom visit will include a visit to their Community Makers Exhibition and two different hands-on building activities. For the first building challenge students will use KEVA planks to complete a curriculum based team building challenge such as landmarks for grade 2, bridges for grade 3 and balance structures for grade 6.  For the second building challenge students will complete an individual take home activity that challenges them to use a variety of building materials while combining manufacturing principles such as forming, subtractive and additive methods while incorporating 3D pens into their creations.

Programs are 2 hours in length and cost $9.50 per student. They are offered on-site at Markham Museum or as a an outreach in your classroom. Check out some of the innovative building projects created by students in the past.
