Women in STEM/International Women in STEM day Feb 11 – submitted by Leila Knetsch

February 11th is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants is celebrating with a virtual 3-day festival featuring women in science, exploration and conservation from across the globe, brought right into your living rooms!

https://www.womenblazetrails.com/

This virtual weekend has a simple goal, celebrating incredible women, doing incredible things around the world, day in and day out. From the 12th – 14th of February, we’ll meet scientists, explorers, conservationists, filmmakers, photographers and more, showcasing their work, challenges, adventures, research and expeditions.

This festival is 100% free to join in. Our goal is to raise funds for Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants to deliver a full month of live virtual guest speaker and field trip events for classrooms across North America.

How do you design a rocket to Mars? How can you study something you cannot see? Have you ever… changed your path/failed a test/felt like an imposter?

We know students have questions about careers in science and on February 11 we’ll help them get answers. In celebration of the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we’ll bring together a particle physicist, an aerospace engineer, a molecular biologist, and an oceanographer to answer your students’ questions about the rewards, challenges and possibilities of a career in science.

Inspiring Future Women in Science – Live Q&A will begin at 4:00 pm ET on Thursday, February 11, 2021. During the 60-minute session, students can submit questions using our Q&A text tool and upvote other students’ questions.

Students can register as individuals, or teachers can register a group in regions where assembling in groups is permitted. Although this event is part of Perimeter Institute’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science activities, high school students of all genders are welcome to register to attend.

We hope you will share word of this event with students, science department heads, enrichment teachers and guidance counsellors. The session is perfect for high school students who are interested in science and want to learn more about different experiences.
